Okay, as a Chicagoan, I need to point out that deep dish is *NOT* Chicago-style pizza. Chicago-style pizza is a completely different type of pizza. Deep dish simply happens to be the most popular type we have. Chicago-style is a traditionally flat pizza with a hard buttery crust, very thick cheese, and large balls of sausage. That is the most common type of pizza you'd find in the city. Homerun Inn is a prominent example of this type of pizza, though I personally prefer Beggars.

I don't really understand your problem with sauce on top. New Yorkers do it too with the Brooklyn square and it is also delicious. It's a Sicilian thing. Also, I don't get the big deal about "New York" style. In Chicago at least they are cooking you a fresh pie. New York style usually means you're getting a slice that's been sitting there god knows how long and reheated with OK crust and average "meh" cheese. The better style of pizza in New York is Napoli style, not New York, but Napoli style is way overpriced and you might as well just make it at home.

I may be out of line here, but I really don't see what's so special about New York Style pizza. It's basically a giant slice of Little Caesar's. It's a huge triangle of cheese and thin but soft dough with a bunch of greasy ass cheese that is somehow so greasy that it makes literally everything else greasy and gross.
