But... why did they turn undead when they drowned? Zombies turn to Drowned when they drown, but not villagers or any other mob. Definitely note worthy, in my opinion. I still think the drowned are more closely linked to some kind of plague/curse-based 'apocalypse event', due to them being undead. They -- at LEAST timeline wise -- must have some relation with normal zombies and skeletons. My friend group's current leading hypothesis suggests that The Wither might have something to do with this, either causing or being made by this apocalyptic event. However, seeing how much evidence there is linking the drowned and the ocean monuments, I'm thinking maybe whatever was effecting the ocean level had something to do with (what I can so far only refer to as) "The Event," and thereby The Wither. But it is entirely probable that the rising waters were coincidental.
